Medical and Radiation Oncology

Now advanced medical oncology services are available for your pet with cancer. New techniques and technology continues to develop at a rapid speed in veterinary oncology. While cancer treatments for pets may have been limited to only a few options of chemotherapy agents in the past, today Oncology options have expanded to a battery of available complex treatment modalities. Our oncology department consists of skilled specialists who can determine what treatment modalities are best suited to treat your pet's cancer. In most cases a combination of treatments are indicated to optimize our chances of cure or long term tumor control. Complimenting therapies to enhance the effectiveness of cancer treatment might include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologic therapy (tumor vaccine treatments), radiation therapy, and nutritional support.

The optimal combination of these modalities depends on the individual case, based not only on the cancer, but on the individual patient's medical history. Determining the appropriate combination is an art that both our medical and radiation oncologist have developed together to offer our patients with the best quality of life possible.

Our oncology department is provided with advanced radiation equipment, which is of limited availability today in veterinary medicine. We are equipped with a Cobalt Unit as well as a Linear accelerator. Our Spiral CT Unit is set up to directly communicate with our Treatment Planning computer system so that dose calculations of our radiation treatment plans are of utmost precision and accuracy. We are also equipped with advanced blocking equipment allowing blocking of vital structures custom-made for each individual patient.
